Παρόλο που οι ναζί παρουσιάζονταν ως πολέμιοι του ηθικού εκφυλισμού και της κατάπτωσης της αστικής κοινωνίας και ο αρχηγός τους είχε εδραιωθεί ως εγκρατής ηγέτης που ακολουθούσε μια απολύτως υγιεινή ζωή, το Τρίτο Ράιχ ήταν βουτηγμένο στα ναρκωτικά.

Κοκαϊνη, ηρωίνη, μορφίνη και, κυρίως μεθαμφεταμίνες, χρησιμοποιούνταν τόσο από τους εργάτες και τις νοικοκυρές όσο και από το στράτευμα, παίζοντας καθοριστικό ρόλο στην προέλαση και νίκη των Γερμανών το 1940.

Ο Norman Ohler, έπειτα από εκτενή έρευνα σε γερμανικά και αμερικανικά αρχεία, αποκαλύπτει την ασύδοτη χρήση ναρκωτικών ακόμα και στα υψηλότερα κλιμάκια. Χαρακτηριστική είναι η περίπτωση του Χίτλερ και των συνεργατών του στους οποίους ο γιατρός Δρ Μορέλ χορηγούσε θανάσιμα κοκτέιλ ουσιών. Αν και τα ναρκωτικά από μόνα τους δεν μπορούν να δικαιολογήσουν την εξέλιξη των γεγονότων στον Β' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο ή την έκβασή του, η αποκάλυψη αυτών των στοιχείων αλλάζει την αντίληψή μας γι' αυτή τη σκοτεινή εποχή.

The Religious Right has fractured, the pundits tell us, and its power is waning. Is it true - have evangelical Christians lost their political clout? When the subject is sex, the answer is definitively no.

Only three decades after the legalization of abortion, the broad gains of the feminist movement, and the emergence of the gay rights movement, Americans appear to be doing the time warp again. It's 1950s redux. Politicians - including many Democrats - insist that abstinence is the only acceptable form of birth control. Fully fifty percent of American high schools teach a "sex education" curriculum that includes deceptive information about the prevalence of STDs and the failure rates of condoms.
